Maryland State Senator Urges Communities to Increase Access to Oral Health
State senator and former elementary school principal Joanne Benson shares her story about working with children who are unable to concentrate and do well in school due to painful and neglected dental problems. Studies have shown that, on average, nearly 10% of children miss at least one school day each year for oral health problems, accounting for roughly 2 million missed school days across the country. She urges communities to come together and build coalitions to expand coverage and make sure that children are staying in their classrooms with healthy, happy smiles.
